Pakistan Medical Centre (PMC)
The Pakistan Medical Centre (PMC) in Oud Metha, Dubai, stands as a shining example of community-driven healthcare in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). PMC, the first not-for-profit medical center of its kind in the Gulf region, extends its healing touch to thousands of UAE residents hailing from diverse nationalities, including Asians, Africans, and Arabs, every year.
Diverse Healthcare Professionals Unite
At the heart of this noble initiative are approximately 44 dedicated doctors of various nationalities, who volunteer their expertise, transcending boundaries and promoting a true model of tolerance and inclusion. Dr. Faisal Ikram, President of the Pakistan Association Dubai, expressed pride in the diverse staff and volunteer base, emphasizing their commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Extensive Patient Demographics
PMC serves a broad spectrum of patients, with over 80 nationalities represented among its visitors. Last year, the center provided treatment to around 22,000 patients, with a target of reaching 30,000 this year. A significant portion, approximately 50-60 percent, receives free treatment, while others benefit from subsidized rates, often lower than co-payments at hospitals. The center is particularly frequented by Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, and Emirati nationals due to its cost-effective, high-quality care.

Comprehensive Medical Services
Under the umbrella of the Pakistan Association Dubai, PMC boasts 18 specialties, an in-house lab equipped with radiology services, and a physiotherapy department. Dr. Faisal revealed that plans are underway to add a pharmacy, further expanding their range of services.
Institutionalized Volunteering Platform
Notably, PMC also serves as the first institutionalized volunteering platform for healthcare professionals in the UAE. Doctors from various hospitals can volunteer, subject to approval from the Dubai Health Authority and their employers. This collaborative approach allows healthcare providers to fulfill their corporate social responsibility (CSR) while promoting community welfare.
Community Engagement
In addition to medical services, PMC actively engages with the community, offering two-week internship programs for high school students to gain insights into medical centers and community service. The center is also set to partner with a local university to provide medical students with valuable community work experience, fulfilling a requirement of medical school programs.
Decades of Service
PMC’s dedication to serving humanity has a long history. Initially established to support the Pakistani community, it has since expanded its services to cater to the broader UAE population. The organization operates primarily through the efforts of volunteers, including the advisory board, board of directors, and the PAD council. While around 70 individuals are employed to manage daily operations, it is the passion and commitment of volunteers that drive PMC’s mission.
Passion for Community Welfare
Dr. Faisal Ikram’s personal journey in community welfare, coupled with his role as President of the Patient Welfare Society in school and his father’s involvement in social work, have fueled his dedication to the cause. As a president, he devotes 3-4 hours a day to the Pakistan Association Dubai, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing time for meaningful and productive endeavors.
