In a bid to streamline the process of obtaining a UAE driver’s licence, the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department of the Sharjah Police General Command has introduced the innovative “One-Day Test” initiative. The program specifically caters to national service recruits and recent high school graduates, aiming to enhance customer satisfaction and efficiency.
Traditionally, individuals were required to undergo separate preliminary and city licence tests over the course of several days. However, with the new “One-Day Test” initiative, applicants can now complete both tests in a single day, saving them valuable time and effort.

Colonel Khaled Mohammed Al Kay, Director of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, stated that the initiative aligns with the Sharjah Police’s commitment to providing exceptional client services. The department aims to exceed customer expectations, encourage smart transformation, and ensure happy and satisfied customers.
The program, which began on July 11, 2023, will run until the end of September. It offers national service recruits and high school graduates an expedited process for obtaining a new driver’s licence. The entire transaction, from application to test completion, can now be accomplished within a record-breaking timeframe of just one day.
Colonel Al Kay explained that the service will be available both electronically and in-person.
Digital Stage
The initial stage involves submitting an application to the Ministry of Interior (MOI), attending theoretical classes, and initiating the process for a new driver’s licence.
Stage Of Application
Following the successful completion of the electronic theoretical test, candidates will progress to the practical training stage, which includes meeting the requirements set by driving institutes.
Final Test
Finally, instead of attending multiple training sessions, the preliminary and city final exams will be conducted on the same day.
Coordination
To ensure effective outreach, the Sharjah Police’s Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department collaborated with the city’s educational district to obtain contact information for recent high school graduates. So far, approximately 9,000 students registered in Sharjah municipal schools have received communications from the Sharjah Driving Institute (SDI).
In support of the initiative, SDI is offering a 15% discount on the training package cost for high school graduates, valid until September 30, 2023.
By launching the “One-Day Test” initiative, the Sharjah Police is prioritising customer satisfaction and convenience while promoting efficiency in the acquisition of UAE driver’s licences.
