Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai opens 10 truck rest stops out of 16 planned truck rest stops in key locations across the emirate. These stops are strategically placed along major roads like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai – Hatta Road, Dubai – Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road, which see heavy truck traffic daily.
This project, in partnership with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), aims to provide integrated services for truck drivers, including service amenities, prayer rooms, diesel refueling stations, and rest rooms.

The initiative focuses on improving traffic safety and reducing truck-related incidents by 50%. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, these rest stops will enhance traffic flow during truck ban periods, promote traffic awareness among drivers, and eliminate the parking of trucks on main roads and in residential areas.
The rest areas cover over 75,000 square meters, accommodating more than 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles with 700 parking slots. Each rest area spans between 5,000 to 10,000 square meters and can accommodate 30 to 45 trucks.
Al Tayer highlighted that these rest areas are crucial for allowing truck drivers to rest during traffic bans and meet the growing demand for truck parking in Dubai, which sees over 300,000 truck trips daily, transporting around 1.5 million tonnes of goods.

The collaboration with ADNOC in constructing and operating these rest areas strengthens Dubai’s position as a global logistics hub and ensures the safety and well-being of drivers by providing necessary amenities for their daily needs.
In 2023, RTA signed an agreement with ADNOC to build and operate an integrated truck rest area near Emirates Road, adjacent to Al Tayy Racetrack. This facility, covering over 76,000 square meters, has a capacity for 150 vehicles.
